June 17, the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought

The United Nations World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is annually observed on June 17 to highlight the urgent need to curb the desertification process. Its every year purpose is to promote public awareness of land degradation and to draw attention to the implementation of the UNCCD in countries experiencing serious drought and/or desertification. The United Nations General Assembly declared this day to be “World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought” (WDCD) in 1994. Each year’s global celebration has a unique, novel emphasis that had not been developed previously and it is a privileged moment to remind everyone that land degradation neutrality is achievable through problem-solving, strong community involvement and co-operation at all levels.

Desertification is the degradation of land in arid, semi-arid and dry sub-humid areas. It is caused primarily by human activities and climatic variations. Desertification does not refer to the expansion of existing deserts. It occurs because dryland ecosystems, which cover over one third of the world‘s land area, are extremely vulnerable to overexploitation and inappropriate land use. Poverty, political instability, deforestation, overgrazing and bad irrigation practices can all undermine the productivity of the land.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development declares that “we are determined to protect the planet from degradation, including through sustainable consumption and production, sustainably managing its natural resources and taking urgent action on climate change, so that it can support the needs of the present and future generations”.

Moreover, United Nations puts an annual theme upon this particular subject to raise more public awareness and attention to the implementation of the UNCCD in countries experiencing serious drought and desertification and “Land has true value. Invest in it” is the 2018 annual theme.

22 Bahman, Iran’s Islamic Revolution event at Matinabad Eco-Resort

Matinabad eco-camp celebrated the anniversary of Islamic Revolution on Thursday February 11. Every year we have a special ceremony for this day to make this holiday more memorable for our dear guests. On Thursday night everyone in the eco-camp enjoyed a live traditional music in the teahouse followed by fireworks and the beautiful sound of Sorna (traditional Iranian horn) and Tonbak played by locals in the courtyard. And then we had gathering by the fire, observed the night sky with the telescope, and ended the night with the delicious meal at the restaurant of eco-camp.

It is our greatest pleasure to take part in celebrations and make Matinabad the destination for such happy events.

The modern day heroes are those who save lives and provide hope for the people who have lost motive and inspiration for life.

The Sharayan Charity is an organization in Iran with the purpose of helping the kids who suffer from the cardiovascular diseases.  This organization is earnest to create a path for the people who want to donate money, knowledge, time, and love for the kids in need.

The founders of Sharayan Charity encourage the experts and qualify people to share their time, knowledge, and ability in medical and non-medical fields to save the kids with the cardiac risks and diseases. Creating the proper and necessarily groundwork to operate in different surgeries and finding the cure for the kids up to the age of 18, trying to attract doctors, professors, and experts in pediatric cardiac care to put children in good and safe hands, are among the Sharayan Charity purposes.

Sharayan has coupled up with another charity organization in US, Novick Cardiac Alliance, to eliminate the number of kids who are suffering from congenital heart disease in Iran.

Novick Cardiac Alliance founded by Dr. Novick, a passionate pediatric cardiac surgeon and a professor of international child health has been implanting hope in people’s hearts in developing world for the last 20 years.  He has this beautiful vision “that every child born with heart disease should have access to the care they needed to live a long and healthy life.” Dr. Novick and his teams have worked in 46 cities in 32 countries, providing 7411 children with free operations and medical care.

Iranian kids have been fortunate for the second year in a row to receive the sincere care of the experts of Novick Cardiac Alliance.  A group composed of a total of 12 doctors, anesthesiologist, OR technician, and a nursing team flew to Tehran on November 7th to save the life of our children. The team operated 36 cardiac surgeries for free and they had a successful operation on a 10-day old infant.

Iran Doostan Tours Co. as one of the Sharayan Charity sponsors invited all the team members of Novick Cardiac Alliance for a weekend stay in Matinabad desert eco-camp. Iran Doostan always contributes as much as possible to provide the care needed for the kids of Sharayan Charity.   The Novick team stayed in the camp on Friday November 14 for one day and had fun doing activities in the desert such as camel riding. In the Honor of Our Beloved Mehregan

In the Honor of Our Beloved Mehregan

In Iran Doostan Tours Co. we celebrated the day that is marked by love, light, friendship, and kindness in the Persian culture. As the tradition of this day, which is visiting family members and renewing friendships, in Iran Doostan office we went to other departments to visit our dear colleagues to celebrate this day by giving them a postal card and our best and warmest wishes.

In Persia, there are two main celebrations during the Avestan year. One is Nowruz which is still our main holiday and the marking of our new calendar year. The other is Mehregan that is 195 days after Nowruz and marks the beginning of the autumn. It is the celebration of harvest for the farmers. Mehregan has a long beautiful story which makes it so valuable for Persians. In Persia, the autumn starts with the month of Mehr and Mehr literary means love and kindness. In the mythologies, the story of Mehr starts with the rise of its god that is born from stones in a cave to fight with the bull and defeat the darkness, which makes it the symbol of light friendship and love. Mehregan is the 16th day of Mehr.

Iran Doustan Tours Co. has always tried to keep these traditions alive for the next generations to come. To remind our people and introduce this beautiful celebration to the dear guest visitors of Iran, we celebrated Mehregan in Matinabad desert eco-resort too. We had the sofrah with most of the symbolic items of this day which are pomegranate, violets, candles, rosemary, grain seeds, and Espand (rue seeds). We handed out postal cards to say happy Mehregan to all Iranian and non-Iranian guests in the eco-camp. And in the evening we enjoyed the beautiful sound of Sorna, a type of flute and Tonbak the Persian drum played by two local musicians.
